When Eric launched the NGO Lifeboat Foundation his main goal was to raise awareness of the many threats that humans and life on the planet endure. Today, he has gathered an impressive number of experts and contributors that are actively working towards the preservation of life on the planet and beyond.
Virtually no one knows about the real threats, because people only know about stuff that is covered in the general news.
We believe the top threats are weapons that can have babies, like bioweapons, nanoweapons, and AI (artificial intelligence). We list all the threats in our website.
There is no evidence of any civilization in the history of the universe surviving such threats. An example of a bioweapon is an engineered virus and an example of a nanoweapon is a microscopic robot designed atom by atom that can self-replicate.
Our main goal is to fix your #1 question. We are active on social media, sponsor and support conferences, have a high trafficked website, and publish books. Our Twitter feed alone gets over ten million impressions/year.
We provide information about the threats that are coming and what you can do about them. Our large board with over 2,500 members is involved. For example, our book "Visions of the Future" has 42 authors.
The average person doesn't need to do much to ensure that technology advances as quickly as possible as hundreds of millions of people are working hard to make this happen. To ensure that we survive the risks of such technology they can support the Lifeboat Foundation by volunteering or donating to our mission.
We are looking for both money and volunteers to help with our efforts. Our bitcoin endowment fund is getting rather big thanks to donations from some generous donors. We welcome input to improve our LifePreserver program and welcome discussion in our Facebook group.
Because without life extension, 100% of the population will die. Since people die of old age without life extension, everyone will die unless life extension is perfected. Also, people become less productive and less happy as ageing makes them less healthy.
RAADfest 2017, the largest ever gathering of radical life extension enthusiasts, will be held August 9-13, 2017 in San Diego, California.
Our José Luis Cordeiro, Aubrey de Grey, Greg Fahy, William Faloon, Ben Goertzel, Terry Grossman, Zoltan Istvan, David Kekich, Liz Parrish, Neal VanDeRee, and Natasha Vita-More will be speaking.
We recommend that people take some preventive drugs to reduce their chance of sudden death. (We wish Carrie Fisher had done this!)
So men over 35 and women over 40 should consider: 1) a baby aspirin every day; 2) statins to lower cholesterol level; 3) Celebrex and other anti-inflammatories to reduce cancer risk; 4) beta blockers and related drugs to keep blood pressure low (there are 7 classes of heart drugs so there are a lot of options); 5) vitamin D for those who don't get much sun or have dark skin and; 6) fish oil.
Note that strong anti-inflammatories such as Celebrex are associated with a higher heart attack risk so we recommend that you take some heart drugs at the same time.
We recommend them for a variety of reasons including their anti-inflammatory properties. We do recommend that people who take them, also take CoQ10 as well since statins often lower CoQ10 levels. If you get muscle pain from statins, then you should stop taking them.
The most interesting thing that is happening in life extension is that AIs are rapidly approaching us in intelligence and will soon be able to do much more in the hunt for anti-aging cures. For example, in the past year Nvidia increased the speed of their Titan X card's AI routines by 566%!
Our top programs are:
To protect against unfriendly AI (Artificial Intelligence).
To protect against bioweapons and pandemics.
To protect against ecophages and nonreplicating nanoweapons.
To prevent nuclear, biological, and nanotechnological attacks from occurring by using surveillance and sousveillance to identify terrorists before they are able to launch their attacks.
To build fail-safes against global existential risks by encouraging the spread of sustainable human civilization beyond Earth.
Life will be a paradise with no need to work, no need to age, and no need to be poor.
