Can you vape CBD oil

Vaping is a cost-effective and efficient way to take CBD. However, with so many different CBD products available, it can be hard to tell which are suitable for use in your vaporiser.

E-liquids, concentrates and distillates can be vaporised and inhaled into the lungs using the correct device. However, most CBD oils are designed for oral use only and should not be vaped.

CBD oil is a beneficial food supplement made from hemp extract suspended in an edible carrier oil. CBD e-liquid, also called vape juice, is a mixture of hemp extract with carriers chosen to deliver the cannabidiol to your lungs in a fine vapour. Concentrates and distillates are products with high levels of CBD that can be vaporised in a specially designed vape.

Fast facts

  • Most CBD oils are not suitable for use in a vaporiser.
  • Some e-liquids are designed to be dual-use and are safe to vape and take orally.
  • A CBD vape oil or e-liquid uses specific carriers like MCT or VG/PG.
  • Standard CBD oils are not suitable for vaping due to the carrier oils used.
  • Vaping is the most efficient way to take CBD, with up to 56% reaching your bloodstream.
  • CBD can be absorbed in as little as 10 minutes when inhaled.

Can you vape CBD oil?

CBD oils are not designed to be vaped and should not be used in a vaporiser. The carrier oils used in standard CBD oils are very different from the liquids found in vape juices and don't have the same physical characteristics.

If you try to vape CBD oil, it will likely burn, vaporise incompletely or clog up your device. This could produce a strange taste, reduced potency or make your vaporiser coil unusable.

Can you mix CBD oil with an e-liquid?

CBD oil is not suitable to be mixed with an e-liquid. Adding oil to an e-liquid will change its viscosity and adjust the temperature required for effective vaping. However, if you want to add extra CBD to an e-liquid, you can mix in a CBD vape additive.

Vape additives are made from similar ingredients to e-liquids with added CBD. You can use them to make a weak vape juice a little more potent or add some CBD to a nicotine-based e-liquid.

How to mix CBD with vape juice

To add CBD to vape juice, add 2-5 drops of CBD vape additive to the vape tank per 1ml of e-liquid. Then fill up the tank with your e-liquid. Swirl the vape gently, but firmly, while keeping the mouthpiece pointing upwards. Keep going until the two liquids have been mixed thoroughly.

Why should I vape CBD?

If you're new to vaping, you might find it daunting; however, it provides more than enough benefits to make it worth persevering.

When you vape CBD, it travels directly to your lungs, where it is absorbed into your bloodstream. This means that you feel the effects quicker than most other methods. Also, when you vape CBD, up to 56% of it will reach your blood compared to only 4-20% if you swallow it.

Because a high proportion of the active ingredient enters your bloodstream, you may not need to use as much, which will drive the overall cost down. Although there is an additional upfront cost required to purchase a suitable vape, overall, vaping CBD is one of the most cost-effective methods.

What types of CBD can I vape?

You can't vape CBD oil, but that doesn't mean you should give up on vaping CBD altogether. There are various excellent CBD products specifically designed to be vaped:

Most vaporisers are specifically designed to work with certain CBD products, so if you want to try an alternative way to vape CBD, you will first need to invest in the correct device.

CBD e-liquids

CBD Ultra Vapes

CBD e-liquid aka vape juice is the most commonly available product designed for vaping. They usually contain a mixture of vegetable glycerine (VG) and propylene glycol (PG) carrier liquids. There are many excellent e-liquids available; they range in strength from about 1% to 10% and can be used in most e-liquid vapes or e-cigarettes.

While most CBD e-liquids should not be swallowed, there are some exceptions. CBD Ultra 1000mg e-liquid is made with a precisely formulated MCT carrier oil and no VG or PG. Consequently, it can be vaporised in a vape with a ceramic coil or absorbed under your tongue

Isolate crystals

Isolate crystals are a pure form of CBD that has no carrier liquid or additional ingredients. They can be vaporised using a specially designed vape or a dab rig. Crystals produce a highly potent vapour because the CBD is so highly concentrated.

Some isolate crystals are explicitly sold to be added to PG/VG e-liquids. To do this, you should carefully follow the instructions that come with the crystals.

Distillate

CBD distillate is a thick, clear liquid produced by winterising and then distilling hemp extract. Most high-quality CBD distillates will contain up to 90% full-spectrum cannabinoids. Distillate can be vaped in the UK when bought premixed into e-liquids or in disposable vape cartridges.

Wax and shatter

These concentrated forms of CBD are extracts that have been further processed to create waxes or clear glass-like shards. Depending on the production methods used, they can contain a full spectrum of cannabinoids or pure CBD (isolate). Both are incredibly potent and can be vaporised using specially designed vapes or dab-rigs.

Hemp flower

Flowers from the hemp plant can be dried, shredded and vaped with a dry herb vaporiser. However, it is illegal to buy or sell hemp flower in the UK before it's been processed into tea, oils or other products.
