A high-strength CBD oil typically contains 25% or more cannabidiol. Medium-strength oils range from 10% to 25%, and anything below 10% is considered low strength.
For example, 1000mg of CBD may seem like a large amount, but in a 10ml bottle the concentration is only 10% CBD. When you look for high-strength products you'll find oils with a strength between 25% and 50%:
When choosing, always check both the percentage and the total milligrams of CBD (we clearly indicate these for each product). The percentage shows how strong each drop is, and the milligrams tell you how much CBD you’re getting in the whole bottle.
High-strength CBD oils can be more cost-effective, easier to take, and better suited for higher daily amounts:
✅ High-strength CBD saves you money – While the upfront cost is higher, strong CBD oils are usually cheaper per mg. For example, one 10ml bottle of 5000mg oil costs £185, compared to £334.50 for five 1000mg bottles, a saving of nearly 45%.
✅ Stronger products are easier to take – With strong CBD oils, you only need to take a few drops to get the right serving size. One drop of 50% oil gives 25mg, compared to 10 drops of a 5% oil (2.5mg per drop). It’s an easier way to increase your intake if needed, while staying within the UK’s daily limit of 70mg maximum.
While we recommend strong CBD oils for many reasons, there are a couple of things to keep in mind:
⚠️ Higher upfront cost – Strong oils save money over time, but they do cost more at first, which may not suit every budget.
⚠️ Less flexible dosing – High-strength oils deliver more CBD per drop (e.g. 15–25 mg), which makes it harder to take smaller amounts. If you later want to reduce your intake, you might not be able to go lower than one drop, meaning you could end up using more CBD than you need.

CBD affects everyone differently. Some people feel the benefits with just a small amount, while others may need to gradually build up to a higher daily intake.
Many who take high-strength CBD start with 30–50mg per day for the first week, then adjust to 45–70mg depending on how they feel. It’s important to listen to your body and find what works best for you.
CBD is known to be “biphasic”, meaning low and high amounts can have different effects. Like alcohol, a little may be calming, but too much can have the opposite effect. So if you find the benefits wearing off as you increase your dose, it may help to reduce it instead.
For best results, place the oil under your tongue and hold it there for 1–2 minutes before swallowing. This helps it absorb through the membrane under the tongue. Follow with a glass of water, and ideally some food containing a little fat, like oil or butter, to support better absorption.
CBD is generally well tolerated, but some people may experience mild side effects such as a dry mouth, digestive discomfort, or changes in appetite. Very large servings can increase the risk of issues like low blood pressure, dizziness, headaches or, in rare cases, liver strain.
CBD can also interact with certain medications, so it’s important to check before use. This includes common drugs like anticoagulants, anticonvulsants, antibiotics, antidepressants, antifungals and beta-blockers.
To reduce the risk of side effects, the Food Standards Agency recommends no more than 70 mg of CBD per day. It should also be avoided if you’re on medication, pregnant or breastfeeding.
High-strength CBD products cost more because they contain more cannabidiol and less filler. CBD is the most valuable part of the product, and its price reflects the cost of growing high-quality hemp, compliance with legal regulations, and the specialised equipment used to extract it.
This naturally raises the price, but in most cases, strong CBD oils provide more CBD for your money, making them a better value in the long term. With more CBD per bottle, you can take fewer drops for a stronger effect, or stretch it out over time with smaller servings.
